Spierre Fin Blades Custom Options Explained
Spierre fin blades custom options explained
Deciding which fins are best for you need not be complicated. Here we explain what and why certain options are chosen when ordering your custom set of fin blades.
What type of diving are you mostly doing?
Carbon Fiber (Carbon Art Range: Are you going to be using your Fins for pool training (apnea or spear hunting) for ocean dives from the shore or for boat dives. Competitive freedivers and spear hunters mostly chose Carbon Fiber as this material gives the best return to original position for the energy exerted.
Fiber Composite: If you are doing many shore entries over rocks and or through the ocean breaks along the shore, a Fiber Composite (Fiberglass) fin blade is generally more robust than Carbon Fiber.
If you will be using your fins for mostly fun dives, a Fiber Composite could work well as the Fiberglass fin blades also offer excellent performance and are available in most of the designs available on our website.
Fin Blade Stiffnesses:
Many fin blades are available off the shelf in 3 or 5 different stiffnesses, from soft to medium to hard, and sometimes stiffnesses in between.
At Spierre, we custom manufacture each Spierre fin blade to your unique specifications as well as your personal stiffness preference. Each set is handcrafted to order by our team.
Fin Blade length:
The 80cm fin blade length is a good overall length and the most popular. If you would like a slightly longer fin blade, 82cm can be selected. We also have 85cm fin blade lengths if you would like an even longer length.
Fin Blade Tip Shape:
Tip shape: The Fish Tail tip shape is the most popular fin blade tip shape (especially for Freediving and Snorkeling). The other tip shapes (Scallop tip shape, Clover Tip shape) are also popular tip shapes.
For Spearhunting, the Standard Tip Shape is a popular choice. The Fish Tail Tip Shape is also often combined with fin blades for spear hunters.
Silicone Rails:
Each set of fin blades is sent to you fitted with black rubber side rails included in the fin blade price. The Silicone side rails are available at an additional cost if you would like to add these to your fin blades. The Silicone side rails have a slightly wider profile than the standard black rubber side rails and the Silicone side rails are available in other colours as well e.g. White, Pink, Purple, Blue, Black, Yellow etc.
Fin Blade Branding:
The branding (Spierre logo) is also available in the standard colour White or in a variety of colours e.g. Black, Blue, Gold, Pink etc.
Foot Pockets:
Foot pockets are available to be added to your fin blades that you have chosen. We have a variety of foot pocket brands available e.g. Cetma (Colour Back or White), Omer (Colour Black), Mares X-Wing (Colour Black), Pathos (Colour Black).
Cetma, Pathos and Mares X-Wing are available in smaller sizes (Cetma from size Eur 35). If you need any assistance selecting your foot pocket, do not hesitate to contact us at info@spierre.com.
How to Travel with Freediving Fins:
Traveling with long freediving fins can be a bit tricky. They’re long, delicate, and prone to damage if not packed properly. But with some planning and the right gear, you can ensure your fins arrive at your dream freediving destination safe and sound.
Essential Gear for Traveling with Freediving Fins:
- Fin Bag: A padded quality fin bag that is designed specifically for Freediving fins, with reinforced handles for easy transport.
- Bubble wrap or other packaging material (e.g. cardboard cut to your fin blade length) can help protect your fins from impact.
If possible, carry on luggage (to avoid potential damage in checked luggage). Check with the airline regarding size restrictions for carry-on items. Often, this is not a problem.
If you must check in your fins, place them in a padded fin bag with plenty of soft padding around them.
Label your fin bag clearly in the event that it gets lost or misplaced.
